Our game last week against Menace 2 Sobriety last week could not have
started any better: seven runs off ten hits in the first inning,
followed up by a three-up-three-down defensive effort. Unfortunately,
teams have a nasty habit of "turning the corner" against us and Menace
2 Sobriety made a couple strategic changes that lead to us only
scoring three more runs the rest of the game.
Our defense, however, was absolutely stellar throughout. Our beast of
a third basemen continued to make throws across the diamond with ease,
we bulked up our pitching to a three-man rotation and generally played
mistake-free, shut-out kickball. Our first basemen, in what was easily
the play of the game (and probably season), even turned a triple-play
- something that I thought impossible in kickball.
This week we play the Sons of Pitches, a team that we have both had words with and played alongside for a season (to mixed results). We may be playing on
Valentine’s Day, but there is certainly no love-loss between these two
sides.
Unfortunately, we might be playing with a bit of depleted roster
because some people do not see box wine at the South Austin Park and
Recreation Center as a "romantic destination," so this game might end
up being a bit more competitive in-person than on-paper.
